Course Objective

This course offers a chronological and thematic study of American literature from Pre-Colonial oral traditions to contemporary digital and speculative writing. Students will explore how historical moments—colonization, revolution, slavery, industrialization, war, civil rights movements, globalization, and climate crisis—shape literary forms, voices, and ideologies. The course foregrounds diversity, resistance, identity, and experimentation while tracing evolving ideas of the “American Dream.”
